About Designs by Fishbone

After years of depicting popular gamefish and marine life ina variety of mediums, the artist Fishbone began expressing his favorite subjets in metal.

"In the early 90's, I started exploring "pierced metal art" as a sculptural style". I strive to be true to the specimen's profile while suggesting its distinctive markings and musculature through carefully executed detail in the piercings to suggest sleek & fluid movement."

The basic process of creating the sculpture begins with Fishbone's original ink drawing that is then transferred to a flat sheet of aluminum. Next, Adam Welsch, owner & operator of Fishbone Design, cuts the shape with a manually operated plasma torch. He then "burnishes" the aluminum to a dazzling luster using a hand-held grinder. Finally, Adam hand-forms the sculpture to achieve a starling dimensionality.
